The meal was banging, and the Guinness was very good, but night one was rough. We went to bed early around 10:30, then woke at about 2am to voices and a TV that seemed to be coming from the front of house below room 208. We looked around at about 3am but couldn't find the source. It went on until roughly 4:30. The TV remote wasn't working properly either. We'd booked two nights from 5 December, having stayed here a few years ago and always wanted to return. Check-in was fine, though reception felt cool rather than warm. The next day we asked if we could switch rooms, but the hotel was full for Christmas parties. Later, a receptionist came up and got the remote working, apparently it needs to be pointed at a certain part of the TV, which seems harder than changing the batteries. We didn't fancy another night of noise into the early hours, so left early. Disappointed this time, though it's still a nice place to stay.

Anna looked after us at lunch with just the right amount of attention, friendly and professional without hovering. The carvery was excellent. Thank you, Anna, you deserve the praise.

The carvery was only warm and the service wasn't very good. After more than 14 years as regular, loyal customers visiting throughout the year, we'd always considered this the best carvery around. After this visit and the staff attitude, we won't be back. We came for my elderly disabled mum's birthday. Someone had parked at the top of the disabled drop-off, leaving me able to park only halfway. Mum uses a rollator, so pushing it was exhausting and difficult, and my sister-in-law on crutches had the same problem. When I first raised it with a staff member, he did nothing. The car was still there when we left, and after I complained again, it took 20 minutes before someone asked its owner to move it. I think he was the DJ. He said people usually walk down the side of his car, but eventually moved it so I could reverse up to the flat area and help Mum get in. The disabled access and facilities need attention. It certainly isn't disabled friendly.

We didn't stay at The Devon Hotel, as we're local and came for a lunchtime carvery. The atmosphere was great, the staff were friendly, and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Thanks for a wonderful visit. We'll be back soon.

The buffet breakfast had a lovely range, with something for every taste. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable, caring and excellent.
