Sunday Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel

The restaurant and bar service was attentive without hovering, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious, nicely presented and made with good ingredients. My room was clean, comfortable and well kept, so I slept well. The hotel sits in lovely, peaceful surroundings, and the staff were warm and helpful throughout, which gave the stay a personal feel. I had a fantastic visit and would happily return. Highly recommend it for comfort, good service and food.

We were at the foot of Box Hill, with the M25 conveniently nearby, and had a lovely stay. Our room had a spacious, cosy bed, plenty of refreshments and generous bottles of toiletries, which I appreciated since they avoid those tiny plastic ones. A door opened straight onto the garden, too. We hadn't booked the restaurant, but getting a table was easy; the food was delicious and the service warm and efficient. Breakfast came in small cups of tea, so I would have preferred a teapot. That's my only complaint.

I was unsure after seeing mixed reviews online, but our Christmas meal at the Burford Bridge Restaurant was fantastic. There were 20 of us, and it was the best group Christmas meal we'd had in years. The gluten-free requirements for the coeliac guest were handled perfectly, and everyone was happy. The turkey had lovely rich gravy, the carrots had a surprisingly tasty hint of curry, and the rich chocolate torte was a great finish. The fresh prawn cocktail had plenty of sauce, too. Service was great, especially our waitress, who was an absolute star. Complimentary parking was handy. I'd recommend it for a big group celebration.

Breakfast was meant to start at 6.30am, but at 7am on both mornings I was still waiting for it to be set up. They apologised the first day, but said nothing on day two, and I was late for work both times. I also wasn't told when booking that parking costs £10 per night. The welcome at reception and in the bar was lovely, and the evening food was wonderful. The bar and restaurant are inviting, too. The room was a different story: the heating didn't work, the radiator was locked at “1”, there was thick dust, teaspoons hadn't been washed between guests, and the bathroom was filthy. I won't be returning.
