The Landmark Hotel & SPA Leisure Club Dundee

It was good value for money, and the hotel was quiet until some inconsiderate guests talked loudly in the small hours on our last night. The room had enough space and a fridge, which was a nice touch. The shower was great, with a strong spray and plenty of hot water. The storage heater didn’t work, but they brought us a portable one that warmed the room quickly. The tea and coffee setup was in an awkward spot. We left the room refresh sign out after our second night, but it had been turned around and the room still wasn’t done. We had to go to reception for towels, clean mugs and more tea and coffee.

The company promised a refund in its reply, but it still hasn’t come through, even though I emailed the address they gave me. The hotel looked lovely on arrival, and our room was well equipped with a comfortable bed. The pillow arrangement was odd, two large ones on one side and two small ones on the other. The bathroom was spacious, with a bath and shower, but the toilet had been used and left unflushed. The spa was small but impressive, with a pool, a very good steam room, sauna and gym. In the men’s changing room, the lights had a problem and the showers were out of order. After a lovely evening out in Dundee, we got back just after 11 pm. In the early hours, the couple next door started arguing loudly and kept at it. Reception said they’d send someone when I called, and the noise did stop for a while. Then we were woken again by slamming doors and someone retching in the hallway. I called reception again. We heard a knock and some quiet murmuring, but the argument started again as soon as the door shut. They eventually stopped or made up, but it was 6 am and neither my husband nor I could get back to sleep. We asked reception for a manager and were told none was available. When I pressed, they said there wasn’t one on site and the young man at reception had no way to reach anyone. He seemed to try texting someone but got no reply. I left my number and asked for a call first thing Monday morning, but nobody called. I waited until 11 am, then phoned. The call kept ending whenever I chose reception from the options. Eventually I called the booking line and reached a person, who passed my complaint to the manager at Dundee, Sean. They apologised again and said a full refund would be processed. Since we’d booked through Expedia, they said it could take up to 48 hours, but it didn’t happen. On my next call, they couldn’t even find a record of our booking. I finally got a direct number for Dundee and spoke to Sean. He told me the night receptionist had spoken with the couple, but was frightened because the woman was “half naked and the guy off his head on drugs.” He was off duty. Surely the police should have been called by then? Doesn’t the hotel have a duty of care? I asked about the refund, but apparently the manager couldn’t issue it and it might take seven days. We’ll see. I won’t return to the Oyo Landmark Hotel and wouldn’t recommend it.

Our family arranged a wake at this hotel for 50 people, and the way we were treated was disgusting. We were seated in a lovely setup in the conservatory and waited for the food we’d arranged. After 20 minutes with no service or anyone to speak to, we were getting anxious and wanted an update. We eventually reached Darren, the restaurant manager, who did nothing to make things better. He said it would take time because they had “some issues.” Darren and his team communicated very poorly, and our guests were left waiting nearly two hours without food. He kept fobbing us off, saying his colleague Tony was picking up warm food from somewhere else. That wasn’t true, but we passed the message on to our guests. After two hours they said the food had arrived, but it was shopping bags of Tesco items, sausage rolls and cupcakes, left at the buffet for us to unpack and serve ourselves at the wake. It was disgraceful. As it unfolded, we were more and more shocked by how bad the situation was and how unhelpful the staff were. There was no food for our prearranged event, so our group had to leave. Service was awful. What food? This is the biggest disaster of a place I can imagine, and the worst place I’ve ever been. I would never go back. The automatic response didn’t cover my issues, so I’m spelling them out here as I did on TripAdvisor. Do not go to this dump, ever.

Ashis at reception was a hero. We were travelling with a baby and had trouble getting them to sleep, so the staff provided a cot and moved us to another room during our stay. After checkout, they held our bags so we could have one last dip in the pool and sit in the sauna before our flight. We’ll definitely return. What an incredible stay, the best spot around here for sure! 💖
