I booked the deluxe double expecting more for my money, but the room was awful. It smelled of smoke, the bedding, toilet, shower, and everything else was dirty. The cleaner clearly hadn't made an effort: half-used toilet roll was on the floor, the duvet had just been thrown over, and supposedly clean towels were left on the bed. There was a big gap beneath the door, so I could hear everything outside. I was too worried about bed bugs or getting sick to sleep there, and had to book somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend it. If you stay, make sure your vaccinations are up to date.

I got back from a gig in Dundee at 4am, but other guests woke me at 9 because they were so loud. The room and beds smelled awful even with the window open, and I could hear cars outside with the windows shut. The location isn't great either: it's a half-hour hike up a hill from town. The door handles were loose, and there were no gluten-free breakfast choices, which is a problem for me because I have IBS. Having to make your own bed and strip it in the morning wasn't ideal either. I won't stay there again.

We walked into a room that someone had already used. It hadn't been cleaned, there were no fresh sheets or towels, and the bathroom and toilet were disgusting. We messaged the contact number on WhatsApp and were told a cleaner would come and have it sorted within two hours. When we returned 2-3 hours later, it was still dirty; they'd only left sheets and towels. My calls went straight to voicemail, and when I messaged to say we couldn't stay, we were told to cancel the reservation to get a refund. But Booking.com emails said cancellation was only possible until 13/09. We had nowhere to sleep in Dundee, as no other hotels or hostels were available when we checked at 20:00, so we had to go back to the city where we live. The whole thing caused us so much stress and ruined our weekend. I spoke to a woman at Booking.com, who called the owner and explained what happened. He refused a refund because we hadn't cancelled, even though the emails said the deadline was 13/09. That information from him was misleading and didn't match what Booking.com sent. I'm very disappointed and can't believe the room was in that condition during a pandemic. We shouldn't have been treated that way.

The only real plus is that it's close to the city centre and the cheapest option in Dundee for a night. Everything else was a letdown. On arrival, you have to handle everything yourself, with no room service or check-in desk. The room size is okay, but you have to make the beds and strip the sheets and covers in the morning. The sheets didn't look clean, and the beds were squeaky and uncomfortable. They're flimsy bunks, so the top bunk can be uncomfortable, and it may be noisy at night. The shower is in a tiny cubicle with no room for anything else. There are toilets on each floor, but they're very dirty. There's a kitchen with some food and a free breakfast, though I wouldn't trust eating any of it. The place didn't feel safe, but I suppose that's what you get for the price.
