The breakfast at Horse and Jockey was fabulous, especially the black pudding, which my husband says was the best he’s ever had. The unlimited option is worth considering: there’s cooked and continental food, cereals, toast, fruit, pancakes and toppings, plus coffee and several teas. Takeaway cups and breakfast are available too. Staff seated us promptly and took our cooked breakfast order straight away. The hotel was easy to find, check-in was simple, and parking was free. Our clean, lovely room had an easy-to-use thermostat. The pub and restaurant was quiet in the evening, then had a steady buzz in the morning. Whipsnade Zoo is only seven minutes away, so it’s a great place to stay for a visit.

Sinead at reception was particularly warm, friendly, and accommodating, and made an already wonderful experience even better. I felt welcome as soon as I arrived, and the service stayed excellent throughout. I’d happily come back.

The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and the tea and coffee were much appreciated. I slept well and woke refreshed, ready to meet family in Houghton Regis for a funeral. At check-in, a lovely woman helped us, though there was a brief mix-up over my paid booking until I showed the confirmation email. Finding the hotel was stressful: its unlit sign sat behind the pub sign, and we drove past several times despite using sat nav. It cost us time and fuel, and another family member said they’d had the same trouble in May.

Friendly staff and great service, and the room was clean with a good-sized bed and a nice shower. The location is decent, though it feels like it’s in the middle of nowhere, with no mobile signal at all. WiFi was pretty poor unless you pay £5 for the upgrade. My only room complaint was how loud the air conditioning was.

The location is pretty and the pub next door is good. The room turned out much nicer than I expected. Self check-in was a bit odd and didn’t seem to work properly, so a person still had to step in and sort it out. Otherwise, a really nice place.
