Colliery Cottage

There’s plenty of parking, lovely views across the hills, and a cosy local pub at the end of the row that serves very good food. Durham, with its cathedral, is only a short drive away, and the countryside around the cottage is beautiful. Inside, it was immaculate, exceptionally clean and very well presented. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and is more spacious than it first appears, with all the modern conveniences we could want plus cosy touches that suit its character. We arrived to a lovely welcome pack of goodies. The host was friendly and helpful, communicated well, and was there whenever we needed anything. We felt very welcome and would highly recommend staying here.

We spent two weeks here in winter and found the cottage warm, quiet and immaculately presented. Clare has a great eye for detail, with matching accents throughout, and the rooms are spacious. The galley kitchen is very well equipped for a stay, including a washer and dryer. The Wi-Fi is fast too. Cornsay Colliery has a real community feel, and the cottage is surrounded by lovely countryside. Lanchester, Esh Winning, Langley Park and Durham City are all nearby, with something for everyone just a short distance away. There’s even a children’s play park across the road. It’s a lovely spot for enjoying the British countryside while still having easy access to busier cities. Clare was friendly and welcoming. Thanks!

We found the cottage very clean, spacious and lovely, with beautiful furnishings and everything we needed. The welcome pack was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. My daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter and I stayed recently. It made a fantastic base for visiting the North East, with Durham, Beamish and Bamburgh all easy to reach. We only stayed one night, and the milk, tea and other thoughtful extras were especially welcome. Clare was helpful and made us feel at home. The holiday home was immaculate, beautifully presented and much more spacious than expected. I’d thoroughly recommend it for a visit to the area, and it’s not too far from Durham if you’re dropping off students.
