The sea view from our replacement room was amazing, but we couldn’t open the windows because the glass was coming out. The heating only worked for a couple of hours during the day, and there was no hot water. In February on the seafront, it was cold, and by then I couldn’t be bothered to complain. The hotel overall was in a bad state and clearly needs some TLC. There were badly patched holes in the bathroom, which was cupboard-sized. Staff were nice enough, but didn’t seem to want to be there. The original budget double had the toilet and shower fitted into what looked like two wardrobes, with barely any room. We complained, and were told that’s what a budget room was. They first wanted £40 to move us, then reduced it to £20, which I paid. It was partly our fault for choosing the budget room. There’s no parking, and it costs around £9.50 a day to park nearby. This was advertised, so we knew. It’s strange for a hotel that serves food not to offer breakfast. And be ready to climb a lot of stairs if you book, too.

We only stayed one weekend night and had paid for the budget room, which wasn’t that bad. The beds were very comfy, though the stairs were a killer, especially after a drink. You get what you pay for: our room had its own shower and toilet, which were okay, but the water never got beyond lukewarm. I’d suggest more attention to detail to make the hotel better.

We had a comfortable bed and a good night’s sleep, and enjoyed the sound of waves when the window was open and the blue sea in the morning. We stayed just one night and arrived late after an event, so we can’t properly critique the place. We knew the room would be cheap and basic for the price, and it suited what we needed. A friendly, pleasant young man greeted us at reception and mentioned pizza was available. We got a pepperoni one, the only kind left, and it was decent enough.

I’m literally cringing while staying here, even though the bed is comfortable. Hospitality is supposed to mean helping guests, but this place seems to have it in name only. The reception looks appealing, but just seems like a cover. I agree with the 3-star rating. I might give one star only for the reception pool table and a few good members of staff.

The beach is right across the road, so if you fancy a swim you can be in the sea about a minute after leaving the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was a decent size and clean for under £50 a night. The shower took a few minutes to warm up, so be patient, but it eventually got nice and hot. You can get bar drinks all night, and freshly cooked pizzas for around £10 all night too. Recommended. The lift wasn’t working during our stay, so if you have mobility issues and need it, check before booking.
