New Inn Hotel

The only real drawback was noise from the bar, though it settled down around 11pm. Otherwise, it was a comfy hotel with excellent staff. My room was clean and warm, the bed was comfortable, and the evening meals were excellent.

We stayed for two nights, and the staff in the bar and restaurant were lovely, friendly, and clearly hard working. The food was amazing, and there’s entertainment in the bar each weekend. There’s no lift and no ground-floor rooms, so it won’t work for anyone with mobility issues. The cleaner came into our room on both mornings even though we hadn’t put out the “please service our room” sign. The welcome information says cleaners won’t enter unless you ask by leaving that sign on the door handle, but that wasn’t our experience. We also had late checkout, yet the cleaner came in at 10am. That’s not great if you’re sleeping or getting dressed.

After a lovely river walk, where there were plenty of seats for taking breaks, we had a really good stay. I’m recovering from health problems, and it felt like the perfect prescription. Everything was spotless, the team were friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. The food was good, though the portions were huge for us. The chef did well, and the prices were good. There was a nice choice of wine, a friendly bar, easy parking, and plenty of TV channels so we could stream. The weather was kind too. We hadn’t been before, but we’ll be back.

I only stopped for food, not a hotel stay. The haddock was nice, but the £17 battered fish came with about 15 partly burnt fries, very few peas, and a salad of a few leaves, roughly three bits of red onion, and less than a full slice of cucumber. That’s shocking for the price, and I wish I could add a photo. Definitely not worth £17.
