The Three Pickerels

We had a very enjoyable Valentine's Day meal, thanks to the reassurance from the management and chef. My wife recently learned she has a health issue that means she needs a low fat, low dairy diet, and we'd worried the menu might not have anything suitable. We regularly eat at the 3 Pickerels because we like the food and outlook, so we contacted them about it. They explained that several dishes we were concerned about, including the "creamy tomato soup" and risotto, were vegan. Despite being described as creamy, they used a vegan substitute, with no cream, butter, or cheese. We normally prefer and love food made with cream and butter, but the explanation let us enjoy dinner without worrying her body might react badly. Even the cheesecake was vegan, which was an extra special treat since she could have cheesecake. Thank you for putting our minds at ease.

We loved relaxing on our private balcony, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The room was clean and modern, with a stunning view of the willow trees and river. My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with our recent stay. The Sunday roast was the best I've had in a long time, and breakfast was just as lovely, freshly made to order. Staff were polite and welcoming. We'd absolutely recommend it for a stay, a drink in the spacious outdoor seating area, or a meal. A truly lovely place.

The pie was a hit, and it's a nice, friendly place with a good range of drinks. Four of us ate there this time. The pork was quite salty, and the beef short rib came with so much red cabbage that it overpowered things. Less cabbage and some green veg would have been better. We'd avoid Christmas party season next time. The huge table beside us was literally yelling to have a conversation, which made it unpleasant for us.

I stayed for seven days for work. The view of New Bedford River from the dining room was lovely, and the food and friendly service worked well for us. It was a bit pricey. The only things worth moaning about were that my deluxe king room was actually much smaller than the standard double I'd had, and the shower in room 7 was quite sentimental.
