Mercure Thurrock Stifford Hall

The staff were superb throughout, especially Monica, who greeted us warmly and was lovely during our stay. When we had to move rooms because the air conditioning was faulty, she sorted it efficiently in just a few minutes. We stayed one night. The room was average, and the bathroom could use an upgrade. It only had an overhead shower, and the pressure was very weak. The evening meal and breakfast were great, especially the freshly made breakfast options included in the buffet price.

After a gruelling six-hour drive, the last thing I needed was one problem after another. The room key didn’t work when I arrived, and the next day it failed again. I was told it had been wiped because it was in my bag with my mobile phone. Getting to the room meant walking outside in the rain, so my shoes were muddy and the carpet got mucky. Who remembers to bring slippers? I went to the bar for dinner, where the menu offered a big choice of steaks and burgers. Once I ordered, I was told there were no steaks or burgers available, and I ended up with a dry chicken dish. I left for a funeral and there was only half a toilet roll in the bathroom. The beds had been made when I got back, but the toilet roll hadn’t been replaced, so I had to call. I shouldn’t have had to. The room lighting was appalling. I’m not a seasoned hotel guest, but I won’t stay here again.

I’m so glad I met Nicoleta and Joseph at reception. They were warm and friendly, and even with all my questions they answered everything with a smile and real enthusiasm. Thanks, guys 🫶

The team here were amazing. Our fairly large group was coming and going at random times for an event, with some unusual needs, and the staff were brilliant from start to finish. The rooms had great air conditioning during a hot weekend, and the service was excellent. I’d absolutely recommend staying here if you’re in the area.
