Corriegour Lodge Hotel

My only regret is not booking at least two or three nights. The owner greeted me personally with a handshake, then we had pre-dinner drinks in the cozy bar beside the dining room, looking out over Loch Lochy, a great name for a loch. Dinner felt home-cooked but was up to starred-restaurant standard. Afterwards, we had whisky by the fire in the shared lounge. Be sure to tick everything on the breakfast order sheet, especially the Lorne sausage. Thank you, Christin and team. This is the sort of hotel I didn’t think existed anymore.

The room was tricky to keep at a comfortable temperature, with only a radiator and no AC, and there’s no lift. We also found the lodge older and in need of some TLC to its wallpaper and decor. It wasn’t quite what we expected, though I suppose we should have read the fine print. The location is midway between Fort William and Invergerry. We only had breakfast there, and while we had mixed experiences with the staff, they were generally nice.

Christie & Iain made us feel very welcome, and Iain’s dinner was delicious. It’s an old-fashioned hotel with French chateau-style rooms in an amazing location. There’s no lift, so it’s not suitable for disabled guests, and there are no bathroom facilities on the ground floor. The lack of WiFi, single fixed dinner time and weekend breakfast ending at 9am were drawbacks.

Christian and Ian made us feel like family as soon as we arrived. We loved our two-night stay, the food was great and the hospitality even better. I’d highly recommend staying here.
