The Lime Tree

The hotel doesn't feel like it used to. It looks a bit seedy these days, and there are so many better options now. Our bedroom was nicely decorated, but the bathroom in Room 5 was awful: mould stains around the bath, peeling paint, and damp on the windows. Breakfast was disappointing too. For a place with a top-end restaurant, the ingredients seemed cheap and the food didn't feel like quality mattered. It used to be amazing, which made this stay especially underwhelming.

We had a lovely stay at Lime Tree Hotel. Our first-floor corner room looked out over the loch, and had a gorgeous four-poster bed that was so comfortable. The bathroom was large, and the room had all the comforts we wanted.

The food at Silly Goose was great, though a bit pricey, and the choice was somewhat limited. Apparently they haven't had steak for at least a year, so that was our mistake. We thought we'd seen a photo or mention of it, but that must have been old information. Service was poor and there was no atmosphere. There's potential here, but they have some lessons to learn.

The accommodation felt like living in the restaurant. There was a constant, strong food smell throughout the apartment, especially in the bathroom, with the kitchen vent directly below. We could also hear very loud restaurant noise from beneath the lounge, even over the TV, which made it impossible to relax. For £300 a night, this was nowhere near the experience we expected, and we won't stay here again. After our eight-hour journey, nobody showed us to the door. We wandered around outside in the rain trying to find the accommodation, with confusing directions to the entrance. We were then given complicated instructions about the kitchen fire alarm, and the staff member seemed more concerned about the restaurant if it went off. The cooker extractor wasn't working, which made the alarm instructions feel especially concerning. There was also a loud dripping noise outside the bedroom windows, even when it wasn't raining. The place was dirty too: both bedroom cupboards had grime, with old chocolate wrappers in the main bedroom cupboard, and the kitchen cupboards and bathroom were dirty and dusty. There were no bath products. The whole stay left a bitter taste.
