The food was a real strength despite the fairly limited menu. I had a juicy, tender and delicious burger, my friend enjoyed flavourful chicken fajitas, and another had steak cooked exactly as requested. The staff were warm and welcoming as soon as we arrived. The George Inn itself is a beautiful 17th-century building, full of history and character. We couldn’t see all its exterior details in the dark, unpolluted skies that evening, but that added to the cosy atmosphere. A charming place with good food and friendly service, definitely worth a visit.

We went with friends for Sunday lunch and had generous portions from a menu that wasn’t huge but offered something for everyone. The staff were attentive and friendly. It’s a traditional pub with a log fire and a welcoming feel, and we’d definitely return. There’s a car park at the pub, some street parking and another small car park a few hundred yards up the road. There’s also a ruined castle nearby that’s worth a visit.

We stopped for lunch just before Christmas '25 and were shown straight to a seat in front of a roaring fire. Our host was wonderfully warm and welcoming, and the decorations throughout made the place feel special. The food was amazing, cooked and presented really well. A fabulous pub at any time of year, right opposite the ruined castle. 😁

The Yorkshire puddings were the best part of a very disappointing Sunday lunch. We ordered four adult roast beef meals, one child’s roast beef, a kids’ pizza and a kids’ sausage after waiting 15 minutes just to order. The food took another 40 minutes. The beef was so undercooked, thick, fatty and tough that it was inedible, even with steak knives. The potatoes tasted stale, the stuffing was hard, and the broccoli cheese was missing entirely. The pizza seemed to be only half a portion and tasted like cardboard. The sausage and mash was good, but it was one sausage on a pile of mash. My wife raised the problems, and the staff apologised and offered a refund for the beef. It’s a shame, as the pub is nice and in a lovely location.

The staff were polite and accommodating, but we waited so long that we had to ask someone to come take our order. Three of us chose the trio of sausages and mash, and we all found the whole dish far too peppery. The gravy was peppery too and covered everything, so there was no avoiding it. I was still hungry but couldn’t finish my meal.
