The Royal Hotel

We had such a lovely place to rest for a few nights. Kash & Vicki were incredibly warm and welcoming, and made our stay feel special. It’s only a question of when we’ll stay again.

The bed was comfy, and that’s the only good thing I can say. The heating was broken and wouldn’t turn down, the room was dirty, and the bathroom was covered in mould. The service was awful. My partner and I waited 20 minutes to be checked in and again to check out. The people working in the bar looked genuinely angry to have customers. The room key was bent, and the floorboards were so bad everyone in the hotel could hear each step. There are a lot of structural problems in the building too. Outside the room someone had dumped a mattress, a shopping trolley and a load of litter. It wasn’t a good stay at all. The bed’s the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one.

It was awful, shabby in every way. There was no toilet roll in my bathroom, no hot water from the sink, and the shower was only a trickle. It’s right across the road from student accommodation, and there was noise until midnight. There wasn’t any milk or sugar for a cup of tea either. I got a last-minute deal, so it was cheapish, but still not worth it.

The rooms are very basic, but it’s a cheap hotel for a reason. The staff were marvellous, and the bar was cosy and busy enough, with a good choice of beers, including Madri & Perroni at £4.30. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the Metro Centre. I’d happily go back.
