Best Western Glasgow South Eglinton Arms Hotel

We were in room 30. The bed was comfortable, it stayed warm, and the road outside was quiet. Breakfast was good, and the staff were pleasant and attentive. The room had plenty of useful furnishings, though it could use a little more attention to detail. The shower pressure was weak and the temperature varied. Its door wouldn't stay shut, so water kept spraying onto the floor. I told reception, and he showed me how to keep the temperature steady, though the pressure was still poor. The TV remote didn't work, leaving us stuck on the golf channel, but that wasn't a big deal. We arrived at 8:30 on Friday night and found the kitchen closed, with no food or snacks available. There were also scratching noises from the eaves above us. I guessed birds or pigeons might be nesting there. It was unsettling at first and annoying around midnight, though at checkout the receptionist said the area is part of their weekly checks. I suppose that's part of staying in an older, charming building instead of a big chain hotel.

The breakfast is freshly cooked and really tasty, and the service has been outstanding on every visit. Whoever owns or runs the place has clearly put a lot of thought into making people feel welcome and comfortable, and the staff are very well trained. We've stayed here several times for my husband's work. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, with good heating and great shower pressure.

That January set menu was excellent value, and we had a lovely family lunch. The food was great and the service was too. We'll be back soon to try the Sunday roast.

I emailed the hotel about what happened and got no reply, so after around four weeks I've decided to leave this review. An acknowledgement and apology would have been enough, but being completely ignored feels like poor service. We stayed for one night in Glasgow for a wedding a few weeks ago. At about 7am on Monday, we were woken by loud renovation work in the room next door, where they were sanding down the adjoining wall. I understand rooms need work from time to time, but it shouldn't happen beside an occupied room, or should wait until after checkout. Not everyone wants an early start on a wedding night away.
