Britannia Inn Glasgow

The breakfast caters to a wide range of tastes, and being next to Charing Cross station is very convenient. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The place is old fashioned and could do with new carpets and paint. My TV remote didn't work, and the coffee machine wouldn't cooperate either, but I told the staff. I've already booked my next fortnightly stay, as I don't really have any complaints.

The first room they offered smelled of urine as soon as I opened the door, was dirty, and had mould everywhere. I went to the desk to ask for another room, and the receptionist let me look at the available ones. I moved, then woke the next day covered in rashes all over my body. The hotel is very outdated. There were only a handful of paying guests, while the rest seemed to be people from the Home Office arrangement the hotel has. I checked out the following day after a really bad time. I don't know how they justify the price for such an outdated hotel. The location felt full of drug taking, arguments and fights right outside the door. I was there for less than 24 hours, and it was the worst hotel experience I've had.

The room smelled awful as soon as we entered, and everything was filthy, sticky and badly maintained. There were mucus stains on the walls and dirt in the toilet. We told reception, who said they'd deal with it, but nobody came. With no time to switch hotels, we bought cleaning products and cleaned the room ourselves. We stayed six nights and housekeeping never came, or even took out the rubbish. This was a week-long business trip to Glasgow. We arrived before the official check-in time and were allowed into the room, but later management claimed we hadn't checked in on the first day of our booking. After we left, I emailed them detailed descriptions, photos and proof of the room's condition. They first promised to refund 50% of what we'd paid, then kept giving excuses: the refund was on its way, it would arrive in 3-5 days, then within 14 days. It's now been over two months without a penny. Their final excuse was that the manager was on vacation. They have stopped replying to our emails, and there is still no refund or response. I've never encountered a hotel this unprofessional, dirty or disrespectful. We're pursuing legal action and will share the photos, emails and evidence with the relevant authorities.

The staff were mostly extremely friendly, which earns the second star. But two nights was quite enough; any longer would have been unbearable. The sheets were stained, some furniture was broken, and the faulty thermostat left the heating running full blast all night. There wasn't even a toilet brush.
