The room was simple, clean and comfortable, and felt good value for a night. Dinner was the real surprise: even with the place packed and the staff rushing around, the wait was worth it. My husband, who's hard to please, loved his fillet steak, and my homity pie was cooked just right. I'd absolutely recommend eating here.

The food was amazing and our waiter was great, which makes this hard to rate so low. But the person I assume was the manager was really rude. I've just moved to the village and hoped to spend summer evenings having a beer outside. Being greeted like that set a bad tone for the whole visit.

The meal and service were good, but the dog policy caught us out. We got the impression dogs were welcome, then found out they could only be in the bar, which was awkward since we'd booked a table. One of us had to take the dog back to the house we were renting. If the website had said that, we wouldn't have brought the dog.

The bar is tiny and could use a clean. I barely had a moment to look at the drinks before the man serving me was watching impatiently, arms crossed. When I asked about pale ale, he said there was one. I declined and left, and he just shrugged. I stopped in hoping for a pint during a dog walk. At the door, a man in a black waiter's vest and white shirt greeted me with crossed arms and an angry expression. He immediately told me dogs weren't allowed in the restaurant and could only go in the bar. I don't object to that rule, but a hello or a more welcoming manner would've made a difference. This isn't the first time I've found the staff ill-mannered here. My family have also given up on the pub after poor food and staff attitudes. It's a shame, given the beautiful area.

The room was clean and comfortable, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. We stayed overnight and had one of our best experiences at the Bell Inn. It's in a lovely village, and the food was superb, as good as or better than many restaurants we've tried as people who enjoy good food. We can't recommend it highly enough.
