The Ben Mhor

A lovely lunch, and I’ll definitely be back. The barman seemed to be handling everything, but he was friendly and welcoming. There was 80s rock on the TV, plenty of space, and vegan options. The food was nothing fancy, just cooked well and amazing value, much cheaper than a round of drinks in Kensington. Dog friendly too.

Grantown-on-Spey has some lovely little shops and cafes, plus a nice playpark and leisure centre, and Aviemore is close enough for a day trip by car. We found the room cosy, the food good and the price very reasonable during our recent stay at the Ben hot hotel. It was brilliant, and we’ll be back. Thank you.

We were glad to end up with a king bed after first being given a small double instead of the twin room we’d booked. There was a short wait after we spoke to Reception, but the larger bed suited my tall partner. Our one night was mostly fine, though the breakfast and dinner service had some problems. At dinner, we waited a long time to queue for a drink, then ordered by QR code. The meal arrived without the whisky sauce advertised with the haggis, neeps and tatties. The TV in the room had no signal and the aerial didn’t work either. It was a cool night because the heating wasn’t enough. In the morning we had to look around for the menu and ask, then learned it was on another table. A mother and son who arrived after us were served first. We heard the waitress say there was no milk left. Our breakfast eventually came very close to checkout, after a long wait, and there was no milk or cutlery. I got cutlery from the drawers and went back upstairs to our room at the other end of the building to fetch milk for our tea. Luckily, we’d brought some from our previous accommodation.

We’ve booked another stay already, which says it all. The staff made us and our dog feel so welcome, and the restaurant menu was great with tasty food. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. It’s an ideal base for exploring the Cairngorms, as we did. Superb stay, can’t recommend it more!
