Ben Mhor Hotel

The location worked really well for us. Granton on Spey has lovely little shops and cafes, plus a nice playpark and leisure centre, and Aviemore is an easy enough drive for a day out. We stayed recently at the Ben hot hotel and had a brilliant time. Cosy room, good food, and very good value. We'll be back, thank you.

Breakfast was a bit of a saga. We had to hunt for a menu, then wait while a mother and son who arrived after us were served first. We heard there was no milk left, and when our food finally came close to checkout time, there was no milk or cutlery. I found cutlery in the drawers and went all the way back to our room at the other end of the building for milk. Thankfully we still had some from our previous accommodation. The night itself was cool because the heating wasn't enough, and the TV had no signal. We booked a twin room but were first given a small double. After I told Reception, there was a short wait, then we were moved to a room with a king bed, which my tall partner appreciated. Dinner took a long time too, with a queue for drinks and ordering by QR code; the haggis, neeps and tatties arrived without the advertised whisky sauce. Still, it was a good one-night stay.

We had a lovely room overlooking the hills, clean and comfortable with everything we needed, and the staff were kind and helpful. There are miles of nearby trails where you can walk dogs off lead. Just head in any direction for about five minutes and you'll come across gorgeous paths. A perfect long weekend with the dog. We'll come back!

The freshly cooked Scottish breakfast was a real highlight, and set me up well for the Inverness half marathon that morning. I paid under £50 for the night. The room was small and a little dated, though clean, warm, and had what I needed for a comfortable evening. For a budget hotel, The Ben Mhor Hotel was a bargain and perfectly adequate if you want something simple and are watching your spending. As a single bloke passing through, I'd stay again without hesitation. Nuff said!
