The spa was spotless and calming, with a thoughtful water fountain that was especially welcome once the warm area started to feel hot. It got busy in the afternoons, though, and the relatively small space could feel crowded, particularly by the infrared loungers where people waited for a turn. We stayed for my partner’s birthday and had a fantastic time. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely balcony and fantastic views. It stayed quiet throughout, and had a great range of amenities. Staff were always polite, pleasant and helpful. The restaurant team at dinner were attentive, friendly and funny, and the food was excellent, with plenty of choice and beautifully presented dishes. We really enjoyed the meal and service. The peaceful setting and quality of the food and facilities made the birthday memorable, and we’d happily return.

A cosy hotel with lovely rooms, right by Grasmere in beautiful grounds with a river running past. Dinner was delicious, especially the cheese soufflé and chocolate mess. The spa is small but good, and the steam room and sauna were among the best I’ve been in. Shout-out to the friendly, attentive restaurant staff. Would recommend!

The spa was a welcome chance to relax, and the room looked out over the river. We had an amazing stay at rothay garden, in a great spot within Grasmere. The food was divine, and I’d drive back just for the chocolate pudding. Highly recommend.

The conservatory looks out over the gardens, which made a lovely setting for afternoon tea with my mother, despite the heavy rain and hail. We went for her birthday, and the food was tasty and nicely presented. The lemon macarons were especially good, as were the turkey, stuffing and relish sandwiches. There was a decent range of teas, including fruit options, mango and strawberry, which was very nice, plus decaf choices. The staff were pleasant and attentive without hovering. It wasn’t cheap, at around £70 for two, but felt worth it for a special occasion.

The three-course meal was reasonably priced and tasted nice. It’s a lovely hotel and spa in Grasmere, a nice way to wind down after a long walk. The spa, food and, best of all, the lovely comfortable bed made for a good stay. Breakfast was beautiful, though it could have been warmer. It was lukewarm.
