The Olde Forge Hotel

We’d definitely stay again. After another nearby hotel cancelled our whole booking when we arrived at 4pm, we drove over to The Old Forge to see if they had any rooms. Philip opened the door and kindly found two for us, even though they’d planned to be closed that evening. He and Nicky were friendly and helpful, and we felt lucky to find them. The rooms were quiet and cosy, and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and included in the room price, with a cold spread featuring yoghurt and homemade granola, which were my favourites, as well as a cooked option. They were very generous and hospitable. Thank you!

The evening meal was lovely, with proper vegetables. A lovely stay.

I’m a solo female traveller and arrived just 15 minutes after check-in time, after travelling overseas that day. I’d already warned that a late flight might delay me, which was outside my control. Even so, Mr Philip Earland was extremely rude and threatened to deny me access to the room I’d booked and paid for. His aggression and attitude made me fear for my personal safety, to the point that I’d have preferred to stay elsewhere. Future guests should know about the male owner’s capacity for aggressive, rude behaviour. I warn other solo female travellers against booking this accommodation.

The rooms had thoughtful little touches that made me feel at home, and the breakfast was exceptional, with homemade preserves. A perfect little gem for quality and relaxation. I can heartily recommend it.
