The Old Post Office

Back again for brunch and very glad we came. The team were attentive and friendly, and the service was lovely. The brioche breakfast buns are soft and delicious, the hash browns seriously crispy, and the coffee really tasty, with creamy chocolate notes. I’d recommend booking ahead so you’re not disappointed. Cheap and cheerful, with clean rooms, a comfy bed, and tea and coffee in the room. The toilets and showers are shared, and Jackie, the boss, is lovely.

Handy for a one-night trip to the Piece Hall, and the location is perfect for both the venue and town centre. Parking here is limited and awkward, but there’s cheap Town parking opposite for only #9 a day. The rooms are basic but fine. Ours was in the attic, where the low ceiling meant I had to sit on the floor to make a brew.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. We stayed one night for a gig at the Piece Hall, and the hotel’s ideal for that, with a short walk to the venue and town centre. There’s parking at the back, and the bus and railway stations are also a short walk away. The rooms are very basic, which wasn’t a problem by itself, but the laminate floors let through quite a lot of noise from above, including people moving around, doors shutting and conversations. Luckily, I always travel with ear plugs. With that aside, its location makes it a decent pick for a short visit.
