The Dog Inn

The locals made us feel as if we'd been coming here for years, and the landlord welcomed us warmly, even jokingly apologising for having a choice of ales. The ales were well kept, and we had a lovely visit. It's a proper old-fashioned, dog-friendly pub, and I hope they don't change it. If I lived in Halstead, I'd happily cross town to make it my local. A couple of us live in Braintree, though, so sadly that won't happen.

We slept really well. Our room was quiet, with no noise to disturb us, and the bed was very comfortable. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The landlord made us feel at home, the service was excellent, and breakfast was tasty and very good. The location worked well for us, and we'll definitely stay at The Dog Inn again. I can easily recommend it! 👍👍

Breakfast was huge, and the host was fantastic. He talked us through what we needed to know and answered all our questions. The bar felt cosy and friendly, and our room was clean and comfortable. Right in the heart of Halstead, it's a great, inexpensive place to stay.

The room photos in red are out of date. The rooms have all been recently renovated, and ours was really clean and lovely. The manager was easygoing, helpful, and great, and it was quiet too. I was a bit concerned about staying over a pub, but going to bed at 10pm was no problem. If I'm in Halstead again, I'll definitely stay here.
