We’ve just left after an overnight stay and spa day, and had an incredible experience. The next morning’s breakfast was outstanding, with loads of choice and a fun pancake machine. At the spa, Joanne made me feel comfortable straight away with her soothing, relaxing manner. The facial was unbelievably relaxing. My partner had a hot stone massage with Ella and really enjoyed it. He said she was attentive and had helped ease a lot of tension. Sandor gave us a warm welcome when we arrived at the spa, so we immediately felt we’d enjoy ourselves. He was attentive to us and everyone around when we ordered lunch, always smiling and happy to help. Kerry went to the other bar to get my partner a red wine with lunch, which he was so happy about. It really meant a lot. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we can’t wait to return!

We found plenty of lovely bars and restaurants nearby, and DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa is a lovely place to stay. The staff were friendly and professional and always ready to help. Our room was spacious, clean and beautifully appointed, and the spa was relaxing and well maintained, a real treat after a day of sightseeing. Parking was a bit of a nightmare. There was a convention on and we had a little bump while trying to find a space.

We had a great night here for my boyfriend’s birthday and booked the ‘signature pamper break’. We chose two 25 minute treatments with Scarlet and Ella, and they were both lovely. They made us feel relaxed and were really good at what they do. The pool, sauna and steam rooms were lovely too. Our room was comfy, dinner in the restaurant was tasty, and the staff were really nice. The only reason I’ve given it four stars is the £18 parking charge at checkout. Our confirmation said, ‘Parking at the hotel is included in your spa day. Please make sure you enter your registration at the spa or hotel reception. You do not need to pay at the parking machines.’ We thought that covered the parking, so please make it clearer in the email that the spa day parking is covered but overnight stays cost £18. I’d still recommend the hotel and stay again.

The breakfast was lovely and one of the few highlights. The massage itself was very relaxing, and the location is convenient, about a five-minute walk into Harrogate centre. But I booked this for my boyfriend’s 21st birthday and the stay fell well short of what we expected. The spa let us down from the start. We were both booked for 10am massages and assumed they’d be a couples treatment. Nobody told me during booking that we’d be in separate rooms. I was put in a double treatment room, so my boyfriend could have been with me after all. The spa hygiene was worrying: plasters were at the side of the pool, apparently taken out from the pool, and the “ice bowl” had no ice, just a used bandage. That felt incredibly unhygienic and showed a complete lack of infection control. The room was clean and nicely presented, but the bed was noticeably smaller than a standard double even though the room was advertised that way, which made the stay less comfortable. The evening meal was disappointing too. Portions were very small and the quality didn’t justify the prices. Music from the ballroom went on until midnight, so it was hard to sleep and relax. The lifts were broken, which added hassle. Customer service was a recurring problem. At check-in the receptionist didn’t greet us or even say hello, and at checkout nobody asked how our stay was. For a special occasion, the hotel didn’t meet expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again.
