White Hart Hotel & Apartments

We had a good five-night holiday stay at the White Hart Hotel in Yorkshire, and the service was excellent. The Manager at the front desk was especially courteous and went out of his way to help with our requests. The room was very clean, though it could have been improved: there seemed to be water damage and flaking paint on the ceiling, and the radiator couldn't be turned off, only turned down. That left it a bit hot and stuffy on some of the warmer days. These were small issues that didn't spoil the visit. I'd gladly stay at the White Hart or one of their other Hotels again.

The room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice bathroom and lovely shower. Service was lovely too, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Some guests were noisy, but the night receptionist spoke to them and things quietened down after 1am. After a long day travelling, we stopped at Dat badger pub for a drink. Very friendly, with a great atmosphere and reasonable prices. We enjoyed relaxing there for an hour.

We bought a cosy double with a hotel gift voucher, and although I know it's the smallest room, it didn't feel worth the price. Room 302 seems due for a refurb. The bathroom shelf was coming away from the wall, the old-fashioned shower swung between scalding and freezing, and the sink drained painfully slowly. The receptionist wasn't friendly and didn't ask how our stay had been. Breakfast was just alright, nothing special, and £15 for parking is very expensive. I wouldn't stay again.

The Fat Badger bar was a highlight on our first night. We ordered belly pork and sea bass, and both dishes looked lovely and tasted just as good. Breakfast was a bit cool on both mornings, around 7.30 the first day and 8.00 the next, so perhaps the hot plates could be turned up. We booked a cosy double for two nights. It was small, but plenty big enough for a short stay, with a nice big bed and a bath with shower. The lighting was the only issue: both the bathroom and bedroom felt dim, with no decent light for applying makeup. Otherwise, everything was good. A lovely stay, and we'll definitely return.
