The Old Town Guest House

We came back for a second visit because the location is perfect and the view is stunning. The room was comfortable, impeccably clean and had good clothes storage. Breakfast orders have to be written on a board, which we did. We later learned black pudding could be requested and added it, but it never arrived the next morning. We also found out preserves with toast had to be requested separately. The stairways were already badly in need of repainting on our previous visit, some time ago, and they’re still shabby. The door to our room also looks as if it was broken into and then poorly repaired, which is particularly unsightly. It’s a good establishment, but calling it four star is a stretch. You get what you pay for.

Tracey was wonderful and gave us lots of recommendations around town. She’s a force of nature, managing the guest house on her own, and was very kind. The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need. You can choose breakfast the day before, and ours was delicious. We enjoyed visiting Hastings and the town very much. The guest house is in the centre of the Old town, so you can walk everywhere. Highly recommend it!

Tracey and her daughter made me feel at home throughout my lovely stay. They were always friendly, helpful and happy to help. Breakfast was excellent, and when I needed an ironing board, Tracey set one up for me in the communal area. The place is right in the heart of the old town, a great location. There’s no on-site parking and parking nearby can be expensive, though that’s to be expected there. My double single room was on the top floor, with a separate bathroom across the hallway. Robes were provided, so that wasn’t a problem. I’ll definitely stay here again when I visit Hastings.

Tracey knows the area well and makes everyone feel welcome. No wonder so many guests come back time after time. We’ll definitely return too. The old town location is great, close to all the facilities but still quiet at night. Like much of Hastings, the building is old, so you have to allow for things like ancient plumbing. The wonderful welcome and superb hospitality more than make up for that.
