Belgrave Arms Hotel

I’ve never felt moved to write a review before, but this stay was awful. The bar noise carried on until 02:30, with the hotel rooms right above it. At checkout I mentioned it to the owner and was told nobody had complained before. That seemed odd when every bedside table had earplugs, and someone at breakfast immediately asked whether we’d heard all the noise the night before. If that kind of late noise is a problem for you, avoid booking here. If you’ve booked and can stay somewhere else, I would.

We only stopped for dinner, so I can’t comment on the rooms. My wife had the Rogan Josh and I had a lovely steak, both were excellent. The food was fantastic, and the bar maid and chef were great. The chef came out to advise us about gluten free options, and swapping the onion rings for fried onions worked really well.

After a long overdue return to Helmsdale, we booked two nights at the Belgrave and really enjoyed it. The restaurant meal was nice, and we had a cracking couple of evenings in the bar with friendly staff and local folk. Hope we can get back up soon.

I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels for work over the years, and this is definitely one of the best. I’m here for 10 nights while working in the area, and the rooms and service have both been brilliant. The food is fantastic too.
