The village is lovely and sleepy, and we wished we could have stayed longer. We had rooms 10, with a king bed, and 2A, with a double and a twin. Both were large, beautiful, warm and comfortable. The owner was a very kind, accommodating gentleman. Inside, the building has the character of its age, with well-kept old furniture and lots of interesting antique decorations. Just be aware that the fixtures aren’t modern. Breakfast was exceptionally good: a hot buffet with plenty of freshly homemade traditional options, plus cold continental choices like fruit, yogurt and cereal. We hope to return.

Hans was lovely and very accommodating, and Zoe was just as nice. The breakfast was amazing. It’s a gorgeous guest house in a lovely wee village, and the people in every shop I popped into were so lovely too.

The hot water in the bathroom really wasn’t hot. The owner, though, was nice and very accommodating. It’s only a few minutes’ walk from the train station and Timespan, a handy spot if you’re into art. Bring your own bottles and sit by the fire.

Hans made us feel welcome and was helpful with local advice. The Bridge is a charming 19th century hotel, with the occasional creaky floorboard adding to its character, and parking was no problem. There’s a comfortable, cozy lounge with a fire going. Our bedroom was spacious but rustic, and it was cold when we arrived because I couldn’t get the radiators working. Hans apologized, explained how to turn on the heat and offered to do it himself. I managed it, and once the heating came on the room and bathroom warmed up nicely. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Breakfast was satisfactory, with an okay selection. The patchy wi-fi was the one irritation. Hans said he’d reboot the router, but any improvement didn’t last. We had a nice dinner in the village, and I’d recommend The Bridge as a stop on a trip around Scotland.

The building is gorgeous inside, and the friendly, hardworking gentleman hosting us was great to spend time with. Since the guest house dates back to 1816, expect a few quirks, including a bath in the room but no shower. I highly recommend staying here. I could easily live in this house.
