The Godwins

The room was so large that I did wish the TV were a bit bigger, just as a personal preference. Still, I'm glad I chose this place while visiting the area. The guy was nice and helpful, and this was the best of the four hotels we stayed in across England and Wales.

We were put in one of the apartments behind the hotel. The guy handed us a key and the lock code, then went back toward the hotel. We didn't realize he'd actually left and shut it up, so there was no one to ask for things that should have been included in our stay. There wasn't enough bedding for four people, and the rooms were filthy. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks 🤢. There were people's pubic hairs in the shower and long women's hairs all over, and I even found a toenail in the bed. There were no morning basics like tea or coffee, and only half a roll of toilet paper. In the living room, a beam was hanging from the ceiling, as if someone had hung on it. At 7:30 in the morning, someone next door to the hotel was cutting wood with a chainsaw. For £60, we got a filthy apartment. I'd rather have camped in a tent, it would've been much cleaner. It was a terrible stay, and I personally wouldn't recommend this hotel 😠

I really enjoyed the pie and mash, and the cask beers from Wye Valley were in excellent condition. The bar team were helpful too. It's a shame there didn't seem to be any proper artisan cider from the many exceptional small makers nearby. The old building is beautiful and full of character, though the rooms could do with a little investment.

The rustic food was comforting, and the staff were warm and friendly without getting in the way. I loved the music playlist and could've stayed all day ☺ I liked this little place so much that I went twice during my short stay in Hereford.
