The chef came over a few times to say hello and chat, and the attention to detail was clear, even in the toilets, which had Noble Isle products, my favourite high-quality UK-sourced brand. This was our third visit, and we’ll be back again. We stopped at the Holcombe Inn for lunch on Sunday while heading back from Shepton Mallet. We hadn’t booked, but the staff made it easy. The beer choice was 10/10, with Otter on tap, and there was a lovely selection of spirits too. The place has a real sense of pride, with local-quality food and drink and a personal touch to everything. I had the duck, cooked just how you’d want it, with the Ju’ blackcurrants and purple cabbage with raisins making a great accompaniment. The beef was our other main. For dessert, the trifle with homegrown rhubarb was amazing, topped with freeze-dried mint, violas and rosss from the garden. For me, eating out is 60% atmosphere, staff, service and the whole experience, and this place gets those details right. Amazing, highly recommend.

We went out for one of the lovely walks straight from the hotel, then came back for an excellent breakfast. The food was incredible, with so much homegrown produce giving it a personal touch. We stayed in a lodge too. The beds were super comfortable, and the bath was amazing. Having our own wood burner in the room made it feel even cosier.
The food here can stand alongside the best we’ve had in the UK and around the world. Chef Alan deserves real credit for it, and Caroline’s warm, polished welcome made the whole visit even more enjoyable. We’re not local, but this country inn is a big part of what draws us to Somerset. Our party of four returned after seven months away, and it was just as superb as we remembered. A memorable place that keeps delivering, and well worth the journey. Highly recommended.
We had a really good night’s sleep, then a spectacular breakfast: homemade granola, marmalade and jam, croissants, plus a very good-quality cooked English breakfast. With beautiful countryside all around, it’s also an ideal spot to pair a stay with a walk. It was a magical break for my partner and me, our first time away since having our baby. This was our second visit to the Holcombe, and we’ll definitely be back. Caroline and Alan were friendly and relaxed, and went out of their way to make sure we had the best time. Our room had lots of character, including a freestanding bath looking out over the fields. Dinner was delicious, with plenty of Holcombe homegrown produce, and we tried a good range of wines by the glass. A very special place, and I’d 100% recommend staying and having dinner here.
The setting was beautiful for photos, and the venue had just the right mix of elegance and warmth. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the charming bedrooms felt special and inviting. Choosing The Holcombe Inn was one of the best decisions we made. Caroline and Alan made planning our wedding feel easy. Their patience, support and organisation were second to none, and nothing felt like too much trouble. They calmly took care of everything, so we could relax and enjoy both the build-up and the day itself. From start to finish, the experience was flawless. And the food was wow, hands down the best we’ve ever eaten. We lost count of the guests who said it was the best wedding food they’d ever had. People are already planning return visits just to eat there again. Every course was beautifully prepared, full of flavour and served with care. They didn’t just host our wedding, they made it perfect. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
