The gammon was amazing, a good size, thick, well cooked and lovely. A few more chips would’ve been nice, but that’s minor. My fiancé asked for no relish on her burger, but it came with relish. Getting it replaced meant dealing again with the woman behind the bar, who was chatting with friends and seemed to make my fiancé feel like a nuisance. She’d gone to the bar before another couple arrived, but the woman served them first, then said my fiancé would have to wait because their food had been ordered first. A young man eventually brought the replacement meal and apologized, though mistakes happen and there was no need to apologize. He was polite, friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. I can’t fault him at all. The woman seemed more interested in talking to her friends and checking on the other couple’s meal than helping us. We’ve been coming to the Valley for many years, too many to remember, and had even considered holding our wedding meal there. Sadly, this was our last visit. The young man should be front of house. Everything about his manner was great, while the woman shouldn’t be the welcoming face of such an established business.

The carvery was excellent, with three meats to choose from and plenty of hot, fresh vegetables. My family and I stopped in for Sunday lunch on 02/11/2025 and had an amazing meal. At about 1:15 there were still plenty of spaces, and booking wasn’t needed with such a massive dining room. The locals were really helpful and friendly. It was excellent value at £14.95 per head. Would really recommend a visit. Ramps on the steps also make it disabled friendly, which helped two people in our party who used rolator/walkers.

We only meant to stay for a couple of hours when we came a few weeks ago to catch up with a couple of friends. The staff were almost too friendly, and that’s why we ended up staying for 5 hours and ordering food too. Had to get a taxi home. Sorry, I didn’t mean that offensively.

We used to enjoy popping into the Valley Hotel for a nice cuppa and a chat, and when it was open we were happy with the prices for a mug of tea or coffee and Sunday lunch. Yesterday, though, I was horrified to pay £3.15 for a small tea and another £3.15 for a small coffee. That’s far too much. I know they have a new machine, but I object to paying for it that way. We won’t be back while prices are so high. I know pubs are struggling, but that doesn’t mean they should rip customers off. There’s hardly anyone there in the afternoon, and you’d think they’d want to keep the people who do come during the quiet time. It’s sad, as we enjoyed stopping in. I hope the prices improve. Until then, we’ll go somewhere else. So sorry.

There are no ground floor rooms or lift, so it isn’t disabled friendly for overnight stays and there are plenty of stairs. I emailed to ask for a downstairs room or lift but got no reply. I took a photo of a glass with just milk in it, and it was heavily stained. Most staff were friendly. All the rooms could do with having small damp patches sorted. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor for non-residents.
