Gilson Hotel

A basic hotel, within walking distance of the shops, train and bus stations, and Hull fc stadium.

Fine as a budget hotel, though it wasn't cheap. I was very concerned by their policy of photocopying ID, such as a driving licence or passport. I don't know why a hotel needs to see that from UK citizens, as I've never been asked elsewhere, and I can't see any reason to keep a copy. They told me I couldn't have a room key without one. Beware.

It was dirty and noisy. Even after asking every day, they wouldn't change the bedding or empty the bins for over three days. People were staying there for months, and the smell of weed and alcohol in the corridor was overwhelming. Never again.

I lost my credit cards while visiting my daughter in Hull, and the owners of The Gilmore Hotel were incredibly kind. Unlike the nearby hotels, they made me feel very welcome. It's not every day you come across that kind of trust and kindness. My wife had to drive up from Lincolnshire, and the hosts/manager went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. When she arrived, we were given a beautiful, modern, clean A 1 room, every bit as good as the best places I've stayed. I'm a 60 year old guy, and being without my cards had shaken my faith in people. This couple restored it. I'll stay here whenever I'm in Hull, and I can recommend them 200%. Thank you again, and God bless you.
