Grant was especially helpful when I had a bathroom issue, sorting it out really quickly. Everyone on staff was friendly and keen to help, and I slept well during my work stay. The room was clean, with extra heaters that came in handy on a freezing night, though it was a little tatty. I've seen worse in more expensive hotels. The view over the sea/river and the deep was great, and dinner was filling and good value. There was a fire alarm after some idiots outside set it off. The evacuation was clear and well handled: staff in hi-vis made sure everyone got out, showed us where to gather, and reassured us. I felt safe and would definitely come back on another trip.

We chose this Premier Inn because our daughter was having an operation, so this wasn't a pleasure trip. The city centre location meant a high room rate, plus £14 for parking for two nights. Check-in was fine, but the room was disappointing: the bathroom was dirty, the tea and coffee tray hadn't been replenished, and a light seemed to be failing or had the wrong bulb. The heating was broken and came on intermittently at first, so I switched it off; they gave us a small oil heater. After a hard day going back and forth, we just wanted to sleep on our last night, but a false fire alarm woke us rudely. I've stayed in Premier Inns around the country and Europe and have never left one feeling dirty before. We ate in the first night, and for the price the food tasted like a microwave meal from Tesco. The place needs a full revamp, or lower prices to match the standard.

The breakfast was good, with lots to choose from, and it was only a short walk into the old town. We stayed one night with friends over New Year. The rooms need updating, though, and one had no heating. Staff were told, but nothing was done. Our room also had no tea or coffee, which was disappointing. We didn't notice until the next morning.

Parking costs £7 for 24 hours. It's undercover, well lit and has cameras. This was our second stay, and we're already looking forward to a third. The hotel is the familiar Premier Inn setup: comfortable, very clean and practical. It's perfectly placed for trying out the many pubs in Hull old town. We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food.

The parking is the main problem. It's across the road in an underpass, with graffiti everywhere, cuts in the chain-link fence, and people hanging around the car park who shouldn't be there. If you're parking a commercial van, put its back doors against the back wall. There's also a multi-storey car park in the building, but Premier Inn guests can only use the first floor, and that fills up straight away. The hotel itself is good, with the usual Premier Inn service and rooms. The lifts can take a while because the hotel has several busy floors.
