After eloping in the hills, we had a big evening meal at the George with both our families. The food and cocktails were amazing, and the staff were attentive and kind, adding little touches that made it feel special. The pub is a beautiful, cosy building in an unbeatable location. Both families stayed and had faultless visits, and loved the Bloody Marys at breakfast. This place means a lot to us, and we’ll absolutely return.

The seafood platter was delicious, after starters of prawn cocktail and venison meatballs. We were too full for dessert, but Lucy and Rafael brought us two pieces of fudge with “Happy Birthday” in white chocolate. Lucy had already made the evening special by bringing a complimentary glass of Prosecco for my 30th, and she and Rafael were both so friendly. My husband and I had the loveliest dinner at The George. The suites at The George are incredible, with log fires in the rooms and candles for a candlelit bath. We loved that treat. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic as usual, especially the puddings. The chocolate mousse is definitely worth trying. The staff were lovely and welcoming all the way through. The new owners have done a great job bringing The George back to its best, and we can’t wait to return. Thanks for such a lovely stay ❤️

The Library Suite was spacious, beautifully furnished, and very comfortable. We also loved the warm, historic, lively feel of the hotel, pub, and restaurant, and the personal greeting from someone we believe was an owner when we came down for breakfast. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout, and the food was incredible. Dinner was among the best we’ve ever had, and breakfast the next morning kept up that standard. We stayed at The George Hotel on Sunday, November 30, for our last getaway in Scotland before moving to Australia. It made the farewell trip special, a solid 10/10. We’ll recommend The George Hotel to friends and family back home and abroad.

The room has a great atmosphere, with a real fire, exposed stone, a low ceiling, and just the right lighting. I’ve stopped in a few times for lunch or dinner while passing through, and the food has always been good. I usually get the fish of the day, and the sea bream with harissa butter tasted fantastic. There are also good vegetarian and vegan choices for starters and mains, as well as meat dishes. Staff are helpful and pleasant, with a nice level of attention. Even when it’s busy, I can usually get a table as a walk-in, and I’ve never been turned away. It’s worth stopping by without a booking, though at busy times of year I’d phone ahead.
