The Loch Ness Inn

In the off season the hostel was almost empty, and one night I had the room to myself. I stayed in the bunk house and found it great value, cheaper than many other hostels and in very good condition. The beds and bedding were comfortable and didn't feel cheap. There are two kitchens, well stocked with appliances and dishes. The location was just right: walkable to town but far enough out to be peaceful and quiet. I could even see a stream from my window.

The kitchen was the highlight for me: brand new, professionally equipped, spacious, bright and cosy, with a sensible layout. In summer, the outdoor seating looks like it would be ideal for gatherings. I arrived by public transport in the late afternoon and got my keycard from the bar staff in a neat little envelope. The restaurant and bar are in the adjacent building. I had booked a shared room but ended up as the only guest. It was heated well for winter and had two bunk beds, a clothing rack with hangers, and a lovely view of the stream. The shower and toilet were impeccably clean, each had soap, and a towel was included. The bus stop is opposite. Everything was exceptional, and I'd recommend it 110%.

The staff were fantastic and helpful throughout, from check-in through our meal at the restaurant. Our breakfast was included and delicious. Dinner was excellent too, though I can imagine it gets very busy in high season, so booking ahead would be sensible. The Loch Ness Inn sits by Loch Ness. It's an old inn that's been modernised, with rooms plus a restaurant and bar inside, and parking on site. There are different room types, some on the small side, but they were spotless and tastefully decorated. A great stopover in Drumnadrochit, and we hope to return.

The welcome was warm and check-in was quick. The building is beautiful, and our room was cosy, nicely laid out, and had thoughtful touches that were especially welcome in the snow, including a muddy boot tray and stocked tea and coffee. We had a drink in the bar, where the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The whisky selection was BRILLIANT. I wish we'd stayed more nights so I could try more of it. The bed was comfortable. You can sometimes hear doors closing elsewhere in this old building, but I slept like a log. In the morning I ran to the Loch, and the inn's surroundings are beautiful.
