We met here for a family birthday, with four generations gathered around one long table. Everyone was pleased with the meal, and the house red even won over a choosy great-grandmother who's lived in France. The place feels much bigger inside than it looks from outside, a bit like Dr Who's TARDIS, and it was great to see it so busy. For the price, it was quite amazing. The only small hitch was that the two little ones, aged 4 and 1, were served last. We forgot to ask for their food to come first, which is usually accommodated without asking, so we’d got out of the habit of checking. That was as much on us as anyone. The landlord and landlady, along with the staff, were lovely and very accommodating with our chaotic, mixed-up family. It’s a bit out of the way for all of us, with couples coming from London, Mildenhall, Stowmatket and Bury St Eds, but it was spot on for the birthday get-together. Thank you!

After a country walk, we stopped at the sorrel horse inn for lunch. Though we hadn't booked, we were offered a couple of seating options. The pub felt cosy and welcoming, and there was a good choice between the menu and specials board. Both meals were delicious, and the service was fantastic. I fully intend to come back soon.

Dinner was delicious and really filling, and breakfast was on point as well. I booked late, so ended up with a single bed, which is on me, but the room itself was very comfortable and quiet, with brilliant heating. From the warm welcome right through to leaving, it was an excellent stay. I’ll definitely return when I’m near Claydon, and next time I’ll save room to try dessert.

We stopped by on an away game with West Bromwich Albion. There’s a free car park, outdoor seating and a play area, plus the toilets are on the same level, which suits wheelchair users. Inside has a pleasant old-world feel with wooden beams. Good range of beers, and the staff were welcoming and pleasant. Well worth a visit.

Had a terrific Christmas roast today. The home-cooked food was brilliant, and the Landlady gave us a very warm welcome. Service was prompt, with friendly staff throughout. Highly recommend.
