The location worked brilliantly for day trips to Tobermory, Iona, Dervaig and the Aros Waterfalls, and the electric charging worked flawlessly. Connecting the TV to a laptop was impossible, as usual. The spa was a highlight, with a great massage, Jacuzzi and sauna, though there weren’t many places to lie down in winter. I imagine that’s better in summer. The pool was busy with local people and kids, which wasn’t ideal, but it didn’t spoil our stay. Our sea view suite was a lovely size, modern, warm and cosy in winter, with beautiful views and excellent servicing. There were even a few room snacks included. The staff were genuinely lovely, and the restaurant chef and Maître D’ were exceptional. Dinner and sunrise breakfast in the main restaurant were exceptional too. The bar had everything from relaxed bites to more formal dishes, all consistently good. The hotel’s exterior looks a bit like something from the 70s, but inside we had an amazing stay. A fantastic spot for a few days away.

The dog welcome pack was a lovely touch, and this place really welcomes dogs. Our hound loved it, especially getting sausages from the amazing, friendly staff, who made us feel at home. We also liked the path down to the beach, and the food and drinks were very good. Since we had the dog with us, we sat in the bar but could still order from the full menu. It was a great finish to our campervan tour of Mull. The hotel is handy for the ferry, and the decor inside and out suits the area. Our room was spacious and nicely done, with a nice bathroom and good soft furnishings. Hanging space was a bit limited and the room wasn’t very soundproof, though neither caused us trouble. Paying at check-in felt odd compared with similar hotels. I’d hoped to keep what I’d paid a secret from my wife, so being asked for £xxx right then was a bit of a shock. Beautiful hotel, and thanks to the whole team.

We arrived at Mull Hotel and Spa last Friday as storm Amy was coming in, and the power went out across the whole island from Friday night for three days. I couldn’t fault the hotel. Even without electricity, they looked after us, serving a delicious continental breakfast and braving the weather to barbecue a hot dinner outside on Saturday since the kitchen couldn’t be used. The rooms were lovely and the spa was good, with lovely views. They made my birthday weekend memorable.

The restaurant food was even better than the lovely views, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was small, but perfectly fine, with a pleasantly soft mattress. It’s a great base for exploring the Isle of Mull. The spa and pool area was the one letdown: it looked a bit run down and didn’t live up to the online photos or the luxury impression they give.

We had a great time overall, and the hotel staff made sure our stay was enjoyable even after our spa treatment fell through. The spa deal said booking was recommended but not essential, but in practice it was essential. We didn’t get our treatments, and were told they’d tried to contact us several times, which wasn’t true. That didn’t take away from the stay. The location is great, just off the boat to Mull, and the service was fantastic with helpful staff. The bathroom door was off its hinge, the only reason I gave the room four stars.
