The best part of breakfast was getting to talk with Rupert, who knew so much about the area. He suggested walks, places to eat and scenic drives, plus where to see a herd of friendly Shetland Ponies. We’d only planned to stay one night, after our original ferry was cancelled and Macs Adventure quickly rearranged our travel. The crossing was especially rough, so arriving to a warm welcome and such comfortable accommodation felt like a real relief after a stressful day. Our room and the bright, cozy guest lounge were lovely, and breakfast was fantastic.

Rupert was a great help with the ferry problems and really went out of his way for us. He knows the area well, the bed was very comfortable, and the home cooked evening meals were fantastic. Thanks for such a relaxing stay and all your help.

Rupert Marshall was helpful with all sorts of local information, from ferries between the islands to bus connections and a good local car hire company. His tips on what to see and do were excellent, and he’s written a guidebook about Uist and Barra that’s well worth buying from him on site or on Amazon. Brae Lea Guest House also had comfortable rooms, a quiet setting and a good breakfast. We had a great stay.

Rupert was a great host from the booking right through to checkout, and sent us meal recommendations. We’d come over from our two week base on Harris for a night on South uist so we could explore more, and buying his guide book at breakfast was well worth it. Sorry I had to take a call while we were checking out!

We booked at the last minute because our ferry left from nearby the next morning, and Rupert’s place turned out to have a really lovely, almost luxury hotel feel. Breakfast was delicious, and the host was attentive and helpful. A great stay.
