Dalesgate Hotel

That huge super king bed had the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. The room was spacious, spotless, and had a modern en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was superb, and the waitress was so friendly. Really good value, and I’d happily stay again.

We were there overnight for a funeral, and The Dalesgate worked perfectly as a base. Everything at breakfast was wonderful, with the cooked food made to order. Our room was warm and clean, and the beds were so comfortable I could easily have slept another hour or two. I’d definitely stay at The Dalesgate again while exploring the area.

Breakfast was great, with fresh coffee and a full English with toast. The room was spotless for the price, with lovely clean bedding and towels, a teapot, and Yorkshire tea bags. The huge new Toshiba TV was ace, too. I had a query and got a reply on WhatsApp within a couple of minutes. Thanks for a lovely stay, can’t fault it.

We stayed on 13th September, and the room’s shower didn’t work at all. It only dripped from the pipe, so we couldn’t shower and had to check out early. I reported it by calling the number on the wall. They said someone would come straight away, but 25 minutes later nobody had arrived, even though housekeeping was in the same corridor. I spoke to housekeeping as we left, but they hadn’t heard about the problem and couldn’t help. The staff were polite enough, but not effective. There was no weekend reception staff, so guests have to call a number, and in our case no one came to assist. My request for a partial refund was refused. They said the hotel was “small” and apparently didn’t have the profit margin. That isn’t my problem. They only refunded the late checkout fee, even though we left early because we couldn’t shower. A working shower is a basic expectation, and this, along with the poor service, ruined the stay. There were other problems too. Our road-facing room was extremely noisy. The corridors were dirty, with marks all over the carpet, and there were holes in the wall where a toilet roll holder had been, which they hadn’t replaced. The mattress was very soft, and I could feel the springs. At breakfast, the oat milk had apparently “run out,” so there were no non-dairy options. The entry keypad was painfully loud, with seven beeps every time a guest entered. The hotel felt poorly maintained and managed. I wouldn’t recommend it, and would advise avoiding it until the facilities and customer service improve.
