Jacks restaurant was the highlight of the trip. Four of us had food and drinks there on the first night for £100. The pork belly was delicious, portions were generous, the staff were lovely, and we all enjoyed our meals. There was a gluten-free option too, and dogs are welcome in the restaurant. The park looked lovely, and we enjoyed seeing the animals. Our lodge was cosy and warm, as I’d expect from a fishing lodge rather than a five-star hotel, and the showers were nice and hot. There were ladybirds in the room, but I suppose they nest in warm places at this time of year. The WiFi didn’t work, though live TV was available. If you’re hoping to relax with Netflix, that won’t be possible. We fished for three days without a single bite. We used sonar to check the swims and found nothing. Maybe the water was simply too cold in February, but we still caught nothing. For what we paid, it was a lovely little getaway, so we were happy overall.

The bed was the big reason we won’t return. Its mattress was so springy and uncomfortable that we woke with aching backs, and there was no mattress protector. The wooden panel at the end also cuts into the space for anyone tall. The sofa was a tiny, cheap student-style pull-out, very thin and uncomfortable, so it wasn’t a place to relax. For me, a break needs a good night’s sleep. I couldn’t enjoy the day after four hours’ sleep with springs digging into my ribs and back, feeling tired, achy and moody. It’s a shame, because the rest was great. The cabin by the lake was warm and inviting, with a lovely plot and parking. The kitchen and bathroom had all the facilities we needed. The grounds were clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and it’s a very dog-friendly park with lovely walking areas, scenic lakes and a little petting farm. The food and drinks were nice, though a bit pricey. There’s also a main road right beside the site. It can get very noisy when lorries or cars with loud exhausts pass.

The walking paths make it easy to take a relaxing stroll and enjoy the beautiful, peaceful lakes. The whole park felt calm and well cared for, and it was a lovely place to unwind. We had a wonderful stay at Woodlakes and are already looking forward to coming back.

Jack's restaurant on site was amazing. The food was incredible, the staff were so welcoming, and we loved that our dog could come in too. We had a great stay in the oasis cabin with hot tub. It was modern, clean and roomy enough for the four of us, with good heating for winter. We used the hot tub several times and liked its size and temperature. It was also enclosed, which we appreciated with our dog. The kitchen could do with a wider range of things, like more baking trays, and the oven was a pain to use. These weren’t big issues, but would have been useful to know in advance. Our main surprise was that there’s no WiFi in the cabins, only in the public areas of the site. We hadn’t realised, though it did give us a chance to relax away from it.

It was a quiet, relaxing stay, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The cabin was clean and had enough supplies for a short visit. We enjoyed having a private sauna, although the space was a bit tight. Jack's restaurant on site was quite good, with good-sized portions and prices in line with what we expected. The bed was uncomfortable enough that we could feel every spring. The “hot tub” felt more like a jetted bathtub. There was plenty of hot water to fill it, but once it cooled down we had to refill it, and that took about 30 minutes. Bring an eye mask if you need a dark room to sleep. WiFi in our cabin was a bit unreliable, though your experience may vary.
