We’d booked the Star Hotel at the last minute and it worked out really well. The location suited us, quiet but central to the area we wanted to explore. Our room was modern, clean and comfy, and dogs are welcome. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us, the locals were friendly, and breakfast was very generous.

Breakfast was fantastic, and Sammy is a great host. I ate in the bar on Wednesday too, the food was delicious and very well priced. The catch for me was that the pub is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so there’s no food then. I had to go into Kirkcudbright, which was no drama, but it doesn’t fit my needs to have no food available those two days. My company booked me into the Star Hotel for work. It’s an old inn with accommodation attached, and the new owners had only recently taken over and were sorting things out. The room was acceptable, though I struggled with the old mattress.

We’d planned to camp, but Storm Amy put an end to that and led us to a winner. We called The Star Hotel Twynholme at the last minute and were welcomed straight away. The room was lovely and tidy, with everything we needed. The pub was warm and friendly, and the landlord and landlady went above and beyond. Breakfast was delicious and served without any fuss. We’ll definitely be back.

We had lunch there as a group and the food was excellent, with plenty to go around. Vegetarians, don’t be put off by the menu, just ask and more options open up.

The room was lovely and a decent price, and our host was great. It’s a fantastic hotel and pub, and dog friendly too. The village is lovely and quiet, which made it a handy base for the little towns nearby. The area is beautiful, so I’d definitely stay here again, and probably will.
