The location is lovely and the hotel looks nice, but the customer service was terrible. I drove five hours after paying for a booking and receiving a confirmation email, only to be told on arrival that the hotel had double-booked. They had my confirmation but hadn’t called to warn me before that evening. One staff member helped find me another hotel, though it cost twice as much and was 20 minutes away. The other man had a real “tough luck” attitude. I was told the manager would call the next day to sort out my refund, but nobody called. A week later I had to chase them myself, was again promised a callback, and still got no call or refund. There was no accountability, just blame being passed around. An absolute shambles. Do not trust this hotel’s management.

The Chequers has been a great spot for lunch and dinner on the weekends when I’ve visited recently. The food has been spot on every time, so compliments to the chef. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and competent, and the service is excellent. The pub has a cosy atmosphere, especially in winter, and there’s a good choice of sport on the screens plus a great new dartboard. The car park and vehicle registration are clearly signposted too, much better than at other places I’ve been.

I’ve stayed and visited here lots of times, and I really like the new menu. The chef is excellent, and the staff are hardworking, knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming. Sport fixtures are shown 10/10. Finishing the evening with darts is great too, though the loser has to pay the bill, ha ha.

Connie’s service was so good we felt we had to leave a review. She was attentive and funny, and made our Friday dinner 10 times better. The meal was great, and we enjoyed the live music too, though it was a little loud.

After a wet Sunday walk with the dogs, we stopped at the pub for a lovely meal. The cosy interior and welcoming staff were just what we needed. We’d definitely come back in better weather and enjoy the outdoor seating in the sun.
