The room was a good size, nicely decorated, and had a comfortable bed. I’m not much for dark paint, but that’s just my taste. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, and I went for an omelette. The staff were friendly too. The plumbing was the one drawback. Pumps or macerators made quite a bit of noise, and some pipes ran through the bedroom. The shower pump didn’t kick in properly, so the tray nearly overflowed. Still, apart from that I had a nice stay and would happily come back.

I had a meeting in Altrincham early the next morning, and this was handy, only about 15 minutes away. There was plenty of parking on Sunday night, and check-in at the pub was easy with friendly staff. My room was above the pub, recently renovated-looking and modern, with lots of space, a comfortable bed, and a big bathroom with a shower. There were a few steps up, which didn’t bother me. After dropping my bags I went down for a beer. Good range of beers and a great feel to the old pub. Breakfast was very good too. George made me lovely scrambled eggs, and there was a nice pot of filter coffee at the bar. The toilet flush was noisy, though it didn’t bother me, and I couldn’t hear noise from the other rooms. They said they’re working on the old plumbing. Check-out was smooth. I’d definitely stay again if I’m nearby. Thanks!

The people working in the Kilton Pub were especially lovely, helpful, and chatty, particularly the woman on the night shift. The pub itself is a beautiful old historic place with wooden beams, and the route to our room was nicely decorated. I’d happily pop in again for a pint or coffee. The room was a letdown, though. It felt dated and wasn’t very clean: there was dust and what looked like cocktail sticks under the high bed, plus ground-in dust on the carpet by the bathroom door and at the bottom of a radiator. For £100 without breakfast, that was disappointing. The bed was very comfortable, and the linen and towels were fresh and clean, but the shower was barely warm and had weak pressure. Families with young children should know the hotel and pub are right beside a busy country road where cars go past fast. It’s poorly lit around there, and when we arrived in the dark we could hardly see the entrance. Given the price, the mess under the bed, and the poor shower, I probably wouldn’t stay at the hotel again.

The staff were very nice and helpful, and I’d be happy to stay again. It’s exactly halfway to Scotland for us and felt like good value. The room had plenty of space and what we needed for a short visit. The bathroom was clean, although I didn’t like the fixed shower head. The cooked breakfast was fine and the continental options were adequate. It was a shame they only had instant coffee sachets.

The team were lovely, and even though I arrived just before food service ended, they still brought me a fantastic portion of fish and chips. Breakfast was lovely as well, with a continental buffet and full English cooked to order. They even had spinach and avocado on the menu. The DBB price was a bargain. It was a perfect stop on the way to Machester, with parking on site. My room was small but clean and had everything needed, including shampoo. The only thing keeping it from five stars is that the property feels a little tired and could use some money spent on redecorating.
