Altnacealgach Motel

We felt at home with friendly, likeable hosts who were helpful and happy to give us some whisky education over a dram, at our request. The room was super-clean and had everything we'd need for a longer stay, which I rather wish we'd planned. Wifi only worked at the bar and phone reception was poor, but it was nice to be off-grid for the night. Well placed for the NC500.

Craig & Sue were great hosts, keen to share their knowledge of the area and help us make the most of our time there. The Inn next door meant delicious home-cooked food and a few drinks were close at hand after a day in the hills. The loch is just metres from the door, with a jetty for easy access to a swim or cold-water dip, and mountain views from the room. Our room was comfortable and spacious, with a big enough kitchen for us to cook one evening, a really comfortable bed, and a seating area and TV. Even our admin explosion fitted in! An absolute gem of a motel. Highly recommend, and we'll definitely be back.

The view across the loch was truly beautiful, with mountain peaks glinting through the mist. I stopped for tea and a snack some months back, and have to agree with the other negative reviewer: the proprietor isn't friendly and is weirdly aggressive.

We arrived a little unsure after reading some negative reviews, but our experience was the opposite. The owners were fantastic, really friendly and welcoming, and full of great stories. We had brilliant chats with them. The place is beautiful, with unbeatable views, spot-on service, delicious food, and everything clean and thoughtfully arranged. You can tell the owners care. I'd give it six stars or a golden buzzer if I could. To anyone complaining, stop being a snowflake. This place is a gem. Thanks, we'll definitely be back!
