The rooms were outside chalet-style rooms, like an American motel, which I wish the woman I called to book dinner had mentioned. We arrived just before the 4pm check-in, but the place was dark and locked. We went for a drive, came back around 5, and were shown to our rooms up an outside staircase. They were small but neat, with no bath. I’d asked on the phone if I could have a bath and if my friend and I could have rooms next door to each other. We got neither. The TV was mounted high on the wall and switched off at the socket, so I had to climb on a chair to turn it on. The remote wouldn’t change channels or volume, only bring up a menu, so I had to climb back up and switch it off at the socket. The food was very average. I suspect it was microwaved because my pie was so hot in the middle while the edges were warm. Only one member of staff was checking in guests, waiting tables, and tending the bar. The place seemed short on customers and staff, and generally lacked any sparkle. It cost £98, which in my opinion was £50 too much. You can stay at a Premier Inn for less and get a decent bed and TV. I won’t be back.

The Sunday roast stay was good value, and I’d definitely recommend it. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and great. Most of the staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming, though I think a few were new and unsure about the menu or drinks. I hardly slept because the pillows were so hard and uncomfortable. A shame, as the decorative cushions looked like they were filled with down.

The evening meal and breakfast were both fresh, delicious, and home-cooked. The woman working there was so hardworking and helpful, nothing was a problem, even when she was on her own. The rooms were clean and tidy, but the heating was like an oven when we first walked in, so I’d suggest turning it down. We’d definitely come back if we need a place in this area again.

We had a lovely stay, with a perfect location for our event and picturesque surroundings. The pub was lovely, the rooms well equipped, and the shower was great. Staff were very helpful and accommodating.

The service from the man on duty and a young woman on her first shift was very good. She was exceptionally polite and welcoming. Food and drinks were fine, and there was plenty of flavoured tea and coffee, plus some nice cookies. It’s a nice, quiet hotel out in the sticks, and the room was very nice and clean. A couple of spiders had joined me in their web, which was woven in the lovely rain shower. The quilt was quite thin and I wasn’t very warm during the night, though the heating worked well and needed to be switched on for a while. I’d definitely book again next time I’m in the area.
