Charlotte House

The location right by Lincoln Castle is excellent, and the bathroom was light and decent, with both a large bath and a shower. The suite itself felt old fashioned to me and seemed geared toward a romantic or wedding feel. The four-poster bedroom was very dark and chintzy.

Sally and the staff were so helpful when we told them our room overlooked the party planned for our second night. They moved us to the bridal suite, which was beautiful, and didn’t charge extra. We even got complimentary drinks at the bar. We’d been staying at Charlotte House for two nights, and after the first night we raised the noise concern. We highly recommend Charlotte House and would stay again. Thanks!

We paid in advance through booking.com for one night, but didn’t stay. There were no illuminated signs outside, so we couldn’t find the hotel easily. Parking costs £10, and it’s in the middle of a public car park. The doors close at 9pm, with no bar or other facilities. Breakfast was included, but it was continental, with no cooked or hot food. The room was very basic, with one towel for two people and only a shower. We found a much more comfortable nearby hotel for the same price, with everything CHH lacks. booking.com and the hotel both refused a refund even though we never stayed. Plenty of other hotels are available, and I’d avoid this one.

The location in the historic Cathedral Quarter is great, within walking distance of Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Cathedral and Bailgate shops. I went to a Lincoln Book Festival event in the hotel’s bright, high-ceilinged Orangery, a lovely spot for weddings and celebrations. There’s a small bar by the lounge, which has comfortable chairs and tables, plus shelves full of old books. The staff I spoke with were pleasant and helpful, and I’d like to stay here sometime.
