Newport Arch is a lovely part of England, with good bars and shops nearby. I enjoyed walking through the arch, which feels like a little tunnel, and driving my Fiat 500 through it too. It’s the only Roman arch in England that you can drive through.

I’ve seen the 19th-century photo online lots of times. It’s only a short walk from the cathedral, and I thought it was worth seeing.

You can still pass through this Roman gate as it was meant to be used, though it’s only a shadow of what it once was. A few bits of its Roman masonry have gone missing over the years. It leads into lovely medieval Lincoln, with the cathedral standing high above the modern town. It’s free to visit and take photos, just leave the bits where they are or the locals may not be impressed.
