We were in Lincoln for two nights to see the Cathedral and Castle, and the frequent buses made getting into the city easy. The hotel is a little out of the way, but a day ticket gets you just about anywhere, including up Steep Hill, thank god! We stayed in room 208 from 26/05/2026. The standard double on the second floor was faultless, though I would've liked a fridge. That's just a wish I have at most places. The staff were friendly, courteous and professional, and they really seemed to care. We'd happily return and recommend the Holiday Inn express.
Robin checked us in, and was caring, attentive and knowledgeable. Some front of house staff can feel robotic, but Robin didn't. The rooms had everything we needed, including an iron and board and a hair dryer. I also like that this chain still has the traditional door sign to ask for a refresh and towels. The one letdown for me is that, since Covid, so many hotel chains have stopped housekeeping on short stays. I hadn't stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in years, and this hotel went beyond what I expected. The room was spotless and nicely decorated, and I loved being able to open a window for fresh air. Breakfast was really good and included in the room price. Parking was easy, with a payment machine opposite the lifts. There's also a microwave with plates and cutlery if you want to heat your own food, which is quite incredible. Next time I need a hotel, I'll be looking for a Holiday Inn Express.
On the top floor I had great views, but a constant humming sound kept waking me during the night. I guessed it might be extraction or AC units on the roof. Parking was also extortionate: even with the discount, £40 for five days is very expensive. Apart from those two things, it was an enjoyable stay in a nice hotel. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and had everything I needed. The bed was very comfortable too. It's well placed for the city centre, attractions, shopping and restaurants. Breakfast was laid out as a buffet, and the staff and management were welcoming and helpful. Thanks for looking after me during my stay.
Really good value for money, with clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. The young guy on reception on Sunday afternoon was especially chatty. It's a good 10-15 minute walk into the centre. Breakfast was basic, but the staff worked hard to keep everything stocked, so I can't fault them.
We usually stay at Holiday Inn when travelling around the UK because it's accommodating and breakfast is a bonus, but the Lincoln city centre stay didn't feel that way. There were eight of us, four adults and four children, visiting on 25/05/2026, the Monday bank holiday. We arrived Sunday evening after Skegness beach. Launa at the desk was helpful and accommodating, and told us breakfast would run until 10:30 am for the holiday Monday. In the morning I checked with Luke at the desk and he said it ran until 10 am. I explained what we'd been told the night before, but found Luke intimidating, rude and unhelpful. My two boys managed to get breakfast for all of us around 9:50, but we felt rushed. When my wife and sister asked Luke for tea and coffee to take to the rooms, he rudely said we needed to check out at 11. They both felt very uncomfortable.
