Premier Inn Liverpool City - Liverpool One

The location is very central, and the evening meal deal was nice, with okay service. The rest of the stay was disappointing. My room smelled damp and had mould, with dust everywhere; the carpets were dirty through the hotel. When I arrived, the self check-in wasn't working, and it took me several tries to explain the problem before anyone helped. My TV also needed fixing. Staff did come to sort it out, and they removed a tray of dusty abandoned glasses from the main corridor. At 8am breakfast looked dried out and overcooked, and there was no fruit left, so I had cereal. The building feels tired and dated. If a company didn't want to book this place, I wouldn't choose to stay here myself.

The room was clean and the price was good, but this was easily my most disappointing stay with Premier Inn. The lights had an electrical problem and needed a staff member to fix them. The TV remote wouldn't work even with batteries, and the shower-bath was broken and very hard to turn off. The shower gel was so diluted it wasn't usable. Breakfast was poor value, with few choices and several items unavailable. Staff came across as unfriendly and uninterested in their jobs. I still think well of Premier Inn as a brand, but this particular hotel needs a lot of work, which explains the low price.

The food was good, and the man working in the bar was superb. We were in town for a nearby managers' meeting, and the central location made it easy to walk to attractions. The hotel felt neglected and wasn't especially clean, though. The man who checked us in wasn't friendly, and our room was unkempt. The bed was uncomfortable, and basic things weren't working: the TV, toilet and some of the lights. My company probably booked it because the price was very cheap, but I wouldn't stay here again for business or pleasure.

I paid a month ahead, which I now regret. This hotel is a dump. There was a self check-in kiosk but no proper check-in, and nobody around to complain to. My room wasn't cleaned during my three-night stay. It was filthy, with torn carpet, a dirty shower and a broken shower head that sent water over the door onto the bathroom floor. The TV didn't work, there was no phone, and only one lift was operating. The queue was long, so I used the stairs to save time. The bedroom window couldn't be opened for fresh air, and the security screen looked onto a 24/7 multi-storey car park, so I kept the curtains closed the whole time. I'm also very concerned about fire safety. Electronic locks require a key card to access the floor, lifts and stair hallways. The exit doors and stair doors were locked in both directions, with no fire exit bars, so you needed your room key to reach the fire exit or stairs. I passed four floors because the lift was broken during my stay, and saw no emergency fire exit doors or stairs available. The hallway doors had security windows that didn't look breakable. How is that legal? This is against the law in Ireland, where fire doors and access to stairways must be unlocked during a fire.
