Sir Thomas Hotel

The hotel, bar and restaurant are quite nice, but the room was basic. I think we may have been given a standard room instead of the superior one we paid for. It was cold for most of the night, the bed was really uncomfortable, and the thin windows let in noise from the nightclub next door. We could hear it for most of the night. Our breakfast orders were wrong, and the staff all seemed uninterested. I don’t want to be too picky, but it wasn’t worth the money for me. I won’t be back.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, so I don’t think this is a reflection on them. The hotel’s shower and hot water system is faulty. I booked because the location was brilliant, and it offered B&B and an onsite restaurant. I was travelling alone and wanted to eat at the hotel. I arrived at 6pm on my first day and was told the kitchen was closed, despite dinner being advertised until 8pm. At 8am the next morning there was no hot water in my shower. I told management, and they said other rooms had the same problem. They suggested perhaps we were all using hot water at the same time and it had run out. It’s a hotel, and I expect to be able to shower when I get up. On the second morning, no water came from my shower at all.

We stayed for two nights and had a pleasant time. The room was clean, though the shower isn’t a power shower and it flooded, so the pipes need declogging. It was quiet during the week, but noisier on Saturday night, still easy enough to sleep through. Breakfast was very nice. Thanks for having us.

We had a comfortable, clean room with plenty of towels, and the stay was good value. I was there with my daughter for two nights over half term. The staff were welcoming, especially the breakfast team, who always greeted us with a smile and made sure we had what we needed. There was some overnight noise from police sirens, which is to be expected in a city. The lift was broken during our stay. It didn’t bother us, though it could be a problem for some people. There also wasn’t an extractor fan in the bathroom. Not a big deal, it just seemed strange. I’d definitely stay again.
